Dog Star Music Compilation CD program

If you are interested in releasing an original Country, Folk, Bluegrass or Gospel song to radio worldwide, please  If there is enough interest, we will restart our compilation CD program and will inform you by email. Our first two releases were received with incredible enthusiasm by radio worldwide, and featured tracks by Jim Stafford on Volume 1 and Jose Feliciano on Volume 2. COMPILATION CD’s - THE RECORDING ALTERNATIVE

How does it work? Dog Star Music puts together compilation CD’s featuring different artists and songwriters, then sends a copy of each CD out to over 500 radio stations in about 25 different countries. Included with each CD is a reply card which the music director at each station is requested to fill out and mail back to us. It tells us which songs on the CD the music director will play, which ones he won’t play, and which ones he might play at a later date. It also has space that he can use for additional comments if he chooses. The company then sends these replys to each artist by mail, email or by posting to a "secret" web page only accessible to the compilation artists. In this way, the artist can see which stations in which territories are playing their song. It also allows the artist to build a following of fans, and the chance to communicate directly with the stations supportive of their music. Each time an artist releases a new song on future compilations, he or she establishes more of a following and a larger fan base. The Compilation CD is also the perfect way to introduce your new album project to the radio listening public by providing a vehicle for your lead-off single.

Benefits: Another benefit of getting your song to radio is the chance to earn “Performance Royalties”. Each time your original song is played on a station anywhere in the world, you are entitled to be paid for the public performance of your work, since the song is your property. Your royalties are collected by whichever Performance Rights Organization that you belong to, such as SOCAN, ASCAP or BMI. They are responsible for collecting royalties for all their Writer and Publisher members for the public performance (such as radio airplay) of their works from around the world. On a regular basis, they distribute moneys earned from previous airplay to each writer or publisher entitled to receive such payments. If you don’t belong to one of these organizations, make sure you join before your song is commercially released.
(**Please note that we do not guarantee any performance rights earnings. To find out more about how performance royalties are tracked, calculated and collected, contact your Performance Rights Organization ).

Of utmost importance is the number of stations as well as the number of countries around the world where the CD will be sent. With regards to North America, many of the large stations tend to shy away from independent releases, although many smaller market stations in the U.S. and Canada will give some support. (An independent promoter/tracker can help you get a kick-start). Stations in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand are very supportive of independent releases. As a result, we focus a large part of our attention on these countries. The thing to remember is this: The more stations that your song is sent to, the more performance royalties that you may earn.

Royalties from domestic airplay can start coming in less than a year from the date of release, but it may take up to two years or longer to collect & distribute foreign royalties to you. Each statement that accompanies your royalty cheques will outline which territory that particular payment is for, so you can see what your song has earned from different territories.

In order to maximize earning potential, a song must be professionally recorded and produced, and of course sung well. We can help a writer arrange studio time and musicians to get a good finished product. Some artists who are signed to major record deals today started out on compilation CD’s. Songwriters, too can benefit from this system. By having their song exposed to a listening audience in the millions, other singers may hear and decided to re-do their song (maybe in a foreign language) thus generating more royalties for the songwriter.

The Cost to go on one of our Compilation CD’s is $499. US or $599. CDN. The fee covers the costs that the company incurs for manufacturing, advertising, artistic design, printing and mailing costs, as well as the time spent to put it all together. We look forward to working with you !
