My testimony: The things that matter anyway

I come from a family of Four: One boy and Three girls, me being the youngest. I was raised in a single parent household; as my father left just before I was born. Not having met my father of blood until the age of 19, I seemed to always be in a state of disarray and suffered horribly with this sense of not belonging.

I began drinking and smoking at the age of 11, and by the age of 15, I was a full blown alcoholic (I found out much later in life that my father too suffered with alcoholism).

I lashed out the only way that I knew, and that was to run around and skip school and on my fifteenth birthday, I was summoned by the courts to attend a board meeting with the Office of Education to discuss my future.

I remember the day well. I was sitting with my mother and a panel of 10 men & women who sat me down at this long table and began to prophesy my future: I was told by this panel that having deciphered my "IQ" test, that I was destined for one of three circumstances: Either I would end up a prostitute, strung out on drugs or would be dead before my 18th birthday! Because of my rebellion, I was excused from having to attend school of any sort from that day on, which I non-boastingly admit had never been done before. But that's how much they truly believed or didn't believe in me!

Coming from a broken family (as many of us have), having survived abuse by my friends father, who by the way was the only father figure I had known, overcoming the labels placed on me and that I placed on myself, I am here today to tell you that there is One who will never give up on you, and that One is Your Father, The Master Creator who at just the right time breathed His breath into you and gave you life.

I now use the stage as a platform to tell people of all ages that it is never too early or too late to believe in yourself and never too late to go for your dreams and desires. God has a plan for everyone and He is the One who makes the way! How true it is that what satan means for evil, God uses for His good purpose! Please visit this link to listen to a very special recording we wrote called " THE SECRET"  This song is for anyone who has been abused.
A Secret exposed cannot kill the soul!

Believe in yourself,

Love Destiny

JEANETTE HARRIS

Jeanette R. Harris was born December 25, 1956.  She resides in Lanham, Md with her husband and two sons.  She began her singing career at the age of 13, singing in area talent shows, with local groups, and travelling with the DC Showmobile.  At age 17 she made her first live television appearance on the late Peete Green show performing with her local band. Years later, along with a new group, she won 1st place in the DC Talent Search at Constitution Hall, in Washington, DC.  Jeanette also performed with a group called “Rebirth” in Tokyo, Japan for two months in 1977 after attending Howard University for two years.  She also toured as a background singer with local recording artist “Gayle Adams” in the ‘80’s.  In 1988, Jeanette performed a live show with Peabo Bryson as his background vocalist.  In the early 90’s she began performing locally once again.

Unfortunately, most of Jeanette’s singing career had been plagued with substance and alcohol abuse.  She would not realize this to be a problem until it had become evident that she could not stop.  She went from marijuana to black beauties, angel dust, wacky weed, love boat, hash, acids, cocaine.  She had a bad experience with heroin after she brought and used what she thought was cocaine.  Through deception, the enemy had her believe that getting high enabled her to perform the two shows a night that most of her gigs had required.  By the time she stopped touring and started singing locally, she was introduced to the newest and latest drug of the day; crack cocaine.  She felt she could handle it like she did all the others but this one was different.  This will take her by surprise.  This was her downspiral into a time of addiction that she could not escape… but God!  Jeanette’s husband prayed fervently for her “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16), along with her church family and Pastors.  As a result of prayer, and attending the C.O.D.A.C drug ministry at her church, she became victorious, but not without a price, “sin is pleasurable, for a season” (Heb. 11:25).  Nevertheless, what the devil meant for evil, God has turned it around for her good.  “I know the thoughts I think towards you…to give you an expected end
(Jeremiah 29:11).

Ms. Harris wrote and released her first recording  in 1996.  Her latest, release is entitled “For God So Loved The World”.  Her family has been a member of Integrity Church, Int’l in Mt. Rainier, Md., since 1984. There, she directs the Children’s Choir and serves in the Drama Ministry and part-time in the dance ministry.  In her spare time, she also enjoys roller-skating.

Jeanette’s desire is to see the fulfillment of the prophecy spoken over her by her Pastor, “…that God will use her as a great instrument in the entertainment industry.  Some of them will be unsaved and in high places, and the Lord is going to use her exuberance, enthusiasm and zeal for the Lord Jesus to win them”.  She shares in the Apostle Paul’s enthusiasm “to be all things to all people, in order that they may see Christ”.
